In one month it's Christmas and then wham bam it's 2015!. As we all know life can change in a heart beat, yet life keeps moving forward regardless of what is happening in your life. Make sure you are spending your time on the important things and not on things you know are not good for you. Get distractions out of your life and become aware of what's happening in your mind with your thoughts. Control your thoughts and I believe you control your life. Don't stress over anything over the next month and if you are ask yourself why and what's important. Get back to the basics.
It was cute the other day my 11 year old son and I were in Starbuck's. There was a giving tree and I said "You know Riley this year we should just collect different items off different giving trees and give back to others and not buy our family unnecessary items". He looked at the tree and read some of the items and said "that would be a good idea". And for a brief moment I thought... "wow, I did something right".... And then he says "So how do I get my name on this tree so someone can bring me what I want". I laughed and said "I think you are missing the point". He can be witty and he just smiled and said "Mom, I get it".
I will be the first to admit I'm not big into going out and getting "gifts" for the sake of buying something. I enjoy the holiday's but I don't like all the expected things that go along with the holiday's. I personally don't think gifts are needed. I'm also not a shopper so I don't enjoy the whole process. I don't think my kids, husband or myself need anything. I just like when we are together. It's simple as that for me. I know I'm a geek, but I think meaning is lost because of all the gifts and food. I'm all for giving to those who are less fortunate, but really can't that happen throughout the year. Okay, now I will totally contradict myself because I recently treated myself to something special!!
Okay, so anyone that knows me knows I'm not a gambler or I don't take a lot of risks. Even when I've been in Vegas - I don't gamble. Anyway. This past summer my friend that I ski with told me I need a better ski. I've out grown my current Radar Slalom ski. Which frankly I just bought for myself 2 summers ago so when he said it I just laughed and said "Really". So I knew I would watch for deals and when the time is right get myself a new higher edge competitive ski. Well, my buddy had sent me the auction that USA Water Ski was doing. I kept it in my inbox for a couple of months really not thinking I would put in a bid because again it's just not something I do. Well, on Saturday, Nov 22 the auction was coming to an end. Early in the day I put in a bid only .50 cents more than what was out there and of course right away someone outbid me. I thought I'm not going to waste my time watching this auction since I won't win. Well 10 minutes before the auction was closing I just started to monitor it! 30 seconds to the auction closing I threw out another bid .50 cents higher than what was out there and I WON the closing bid! So I picked up a brand new GOODE Fire Slalom Ski. The whole process just made me laugh because my husband and my 2 boys were watching over my shoulders and my 9 year old son said "Mom, get your bid in... this is so intense". Anyway. I'm pretty stoked because I talked with the representative yesterday and got everything squared away and my new ski is being built just for me! What this means is I need to continue to up my ante! Last year I got up to 32 mph behind the boat. This coming year now I need to get up to 34 mph!
I got a dam spending ticket the other week. I got busted what can I say. I was going 19 over in town :) But the cop waited to pull me over until I was pulled into my son's middle school. I was on the way to a teacher / parent conference, so I'm sure it looked like a big drug bust taking place in the parking lot. I was ready for him to send out the dogs after his sirens went on. When the cop asked me why I was going so fast he got one of my "Julie Looks" like "REALLY I'm at a School!" I just said "I don't know I was thinking about my son's teacher conference". I have no time for bullshit :) I came home, paid the ticket, and was done with it. I reminded myself he was just doing his job and let it go!
We added a new puppy to our household! We are so in love with him and he has brought out the soft side in my sons. Especially my 11 year old. Every day I hear him tell Moomba he loves him. AND my son tells me almost everyday how much he loves me too. He asks me about 1000 new questions about what I think the dog is thinking a day! And tells me play by play what him and Moomba did. He just thinks Moomba is so funny. The other day he said "Mom, I just can't believe he is ours. We have a puppy. We've asked for so long and now we have a dog". He is so in the moment with Moomba it melts my heart. My 9 year old is the same way but him and Moomba have developed their won personal relationship regarding the way they play. Let's just say there is total chaos in the house and pitter patter floor noises non-stop :) Last night we went sledding for the first time and it was so fun. Moomba would ride the sled with us or just chase us up and down the hill. It was a blast! One of those special first snow moments! He was one tired out pup! I know he will love the boat this summer and be a true lake dog!
My father passed away 6 years ago today. I'm in a very good place, yet I can't believe it's been that long. I must give my Mother credit for staying positive & strong. She is a very independent woman and I love that. I enjoy our phone conversations but I can hear it in her voice and stories she's aging as we all are. We are all going to pass on to another life and continue to age, so just make the best of what you have and make good choices & slow down in life (and on the road - tee hee)! Live your life like my little Moomba pup - be in the moment and be present. Also, just be kind.
Okay, just wanted to check in since it's been awhile since I've written a blog. Hugs to all the lake lovers out there! Enjoy your Holiday season. To all my customers thank you for all your business. I truly feel blessed and appreciate everything. If you ever need anything - you know who to contact! Be safe and happy!
Yours Truly,
Julie
